Connecting Communities in the Margins to Essential Rights

Working with communities through ONE-STOP birth registration and public health insurance access to foster equality and care

Connecting Communities, Changing Lives

Registering Dignity is a non-profit initiative that strongly believes in connecting marginalized communities to essential rights, care, and recognition. Through streamlined access to birth registration and public health insurance, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of those often overlooked, starting with the Sama Bajau in Zamboanga City who are at risk of being stateless due to systematic exclusion. Fueled by a seed grant from the Equity Initiative, our collaboration with local women leaders, the Sama Sama Bajau Women Leaders, the Office of the Civil Registrar, Philhealth, The Department of Health, local healthcare practitioners and providers, and the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines is breaking down barriers and fostering inclusive systems. By ensuring families are documented and insured, Registering Dignity paves the way for improved healthcare, education, and social protection, laying the foundation for lasting equity and ensuring every community is acknowledged, valued, and supported.

THE BIG PICTURE

What does this mean for the community?

Birth and public health insurance registration are the immediate outcomes of the project. But this means so much more to our community partners.

They can participate more fully in society with proper documentation

They are connected to additional healthcare services, education, and livelihood opportunities

They have a shot at ending the cycle of intergenerational poverty and risk of statelessness

PLANNING AHEAD

Scaling our impact

Three ways to multiply our effect

Systems transformation

Embed into more local government systems

Partner formally with LGUs, civil registrars, and health offices to institutionalise the one-stop model, so registration becomes part of routine community outreach and budget lines.

Capacity development

Train more women leaders and community facilitators

Expand the network of trained local women leaders who can replicate the process with other underserved groups, multiplying reach with modest investment.

Social protections

Expand to other social protections

Include services like school enrolment support, livelihood skills training support, or disaster assistance, turning the one-stop registration into a holistic hub that addresses multiple vulnerabilities at once.
